Lake Burton gets a new accessible fishing pier as fall brown trout show

Georgia’s Sept. 18, 2026 statewide fishing report, from the Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division, puts two Lake Burton items up front that are separate from the Sept. 26 free-fishing day.

Wildlife Resources Division has finished installing a new handicap-accessible public fishing pier on the lake. Biologist James Miles said anglers can reach it from the Georgia WRD Moccasin Creek Boat Ramp area and fish the lake’s species from the bank.

The same report says Burton received its first annual fall brown trout stocking since 2023. Biologist Kyle Rempe noted strong angler-award fish from bank anglers near the mouth of Moccasin Creek, plus some success in deeper, cooler water — around the dam, at cove mouths, and near flowing tributaries, the places reservoir browns use while the lake is still warm.

One other line from that sheet: on Aug. 19, Anthony Scroggins set a new Lake Lanier record with a 22-pound blue catfish caught on cut bait, about three pounds over the previous lake record.
