Southeast Alaska commercial geoduck season opens with a 264,000-pound GHL
Southeast Alaska’s commercial geoduck season is on the calendar. An Alaska Department of Fish and Game advisory announcement out of Ketchikan, dated Sept. 8, 2026, says the 2026/27 season begins by regulation on Oct. 1, 2026. The guideline harvest level is 264,000 pounds. The first opening is planned for Oct. 7, pending PSP test results. The emergency order is EO 1M2926.
District guideline harvest levels in the announcement are Kelp Island 136,500 pounds, Foggy Bay 24,200, Cat and Dog Islands 47,300, Blanquizal 8,400, Warren/Kosciusko 26,900, and Northwest Dall 20,700. Saint Nicholas Channel/North Lulu and Biorka/Legma are closed. Biomass there is below the 30 percent threshold, and the announcement notes sea otter predation.
Around Ketchikan, weekly harvest periods are generally Wednesday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., after Monday and Tuesday PSP results. This is the geoduck fishery, separate from the Southeast commercial Dungeness fall season already on the desk.
